Erwin's best friend John Parker invited him to play in a volleyball tournament in Orem. Since Erwin loves the sport and always wishes he could play it more, he of course said yes.
It was quite the day! The boys both got there at around 8:00 a.m., and I arrived later with Wa'a around 9:30. We were joined by aunties and uncles and cousins to help cheer on for the both. We had a canopy to sit under and a nice blanket to sit on. (Thanks again Rivas family!) I am so glad we did, because it was hot and the sun was out blazing. It was such a sight to see; rows and rows of volleyball nets lined up next to each other and lots of different games going on. They played 2 on 2 and had quite the workout as they played hard and had fun.
Having Meags, the Rivas family and Zempo's made it so fun and we all laughed and cheered and enjoyed good company and food. Erwin and John appreciated them there and loved the support. After a few hours most everyone needed to leave to get things done and they headed their separate ways. Meags decided to stay with me, and I MUST tell you that it was such fun to have her there with me (so I wasn't alone) and also a relief! (Wa'a was tired and cranky after a while and she continually helped out with him) She stayed until the bitter end and never complained of anything-not once! We had a good time and I was so grateful for her time spent with us.
Neither Erwin not John knew how far they would get in the tournament, but before you knew it, hours and hours and hours had gone by and they were competing for 3rd place. I kept wondering when they were going to lose. and Meags kept laughing at me because she knew I was secretly almost hoping they would so we could wrap things up. ( Did I mention that Wa'a so super tired, hot and cranky...?)
But those boys played hard and they played well, and by the last game, they were completely wasted and exhausted beyond belief. They ended up taking 4th place out of 27 teams. Wahoo! They did great and we really enjoyed watching them play!
