I enjoy observing people who make an effort to be pleasant and kind to others. For some it takes work, and others it comes naturally. But either way, it touches me.
As I was standing in line at All A Dollar the other day, there were two women ahead of me. Both were dressed very well and both pretty. They were chatting with each other about kids, shopping and the weather. They sounded like they were old friends by the way they were laughing and being so friendly. When it came turn for the first woman to check out, the cashier started chatting up a storm with her. Now, this woman was very socially awkward, not to mention loud and went on about her runny nose and how tired she was. This can make some people uncomfortable or irritated.
The woman however, went above and beyond of just your average polite smile or nodding of the head. She interacted with the cashier as if everything she had to say was very important, and even asked her advice on medicine and birthday party ideas. She was pleasant. And she was genuinely kind. And she acted as if every person she had talked to in that store was of importance and worthwhile.
She gathered up her bags, and the lady behind her then said "Nice to meet you. You have such a delightful personality. Thank you." I then realized they were strangers, and not friends like I had originally thought. How great, that they could be so lovely to each other.
The next woman then did the same thing with the cashier. Was kind, friendly, outgoing and sweet. It touched my heart and uplifted my spirits. I in turn then tried to approach everyone else that day with a kind heart, willing a to listen, love and be kind. I'm grateful for those who are truly an example.
