Erwin and I celebrated 5 years married on March 18. As cliche as it sounds, time really does fly! But Erwin was over the top prepared for this day and couldn't contain his excitement to celebrate with me. He kept telling me "5 years honey, 5 years!!" So he pinched his pennies and saved up for quite some time to make sure we could do something (many somethings, actually) really fun.
He surprised me and took the day of our anniversary off. We loaded up the kids and headed downtown, to the hotel where we stayed after we got married. The Little America! We love it there.
After we arrived, we quickly changed into our swimsuits and headed down to the pool. The hotel was hosting some conference at the time, so there were tons of people, but the pool house was almost empty! The water was on the cooler side, but we had lots of fun swimming around with the kiddos.
Erwin had quite the day planned for me. Every single thing was a surprise and I couldn't wait! Since we couldn't find anyone available to watch the kids from sunrise to sunset, we just had them tag along with us.
We drove down south and had to stop quickly at our house for some things we forgot. He then gave me my second gift. A necklace with all of our birthstones in it! It was such a wonderful gift and it was so fun to put on and have all my dearest loved ones near my heart.
He then took us to the Provo river trail, where he and I have wonderful memories there together back from the dating days. We walked around for a looonng time looking for a particular spot that we both loved, but couldn't find it. So we took a break and went to Zupas for lunch! This is where we had our first hangout together where we talked for hours.
After lunch we headed back to the Provo trail. Erwin decided to drive around and see if he could park next to the spot we had been searching for earlier. He actually found it, and hopped out to go check out the area. He said there were some shady people walking around in our spot, so we just hopped out of the car and he gave me my next gift in the general vicinity. Haha.
The gift was a customized book! He created our characters and created the title and all the pages inside. It was so fun to read! I laughed and laughed and felt so excited to have such a memorable gift to keep forever. It was so sweet.
We then drove all the way back to Sandy, where we used to live. He took me to our favorite park where I loved to take walks in the morning or play around in the evenings with the whole family. I love it there. We started to walk the trail when he had me sit down and get ready for my next gifts.
The first one was a "mixed tape", which actually was a plastic tape with a USB tucked inside. (brilliant) It had a playlist of all our songs, and some new ones that he loved. It was pretty great and I loved hearing the songs and going down memory lane. It made me laugh and he was so creative.
Then he proceeded to play the songs from his phone, and then asked me to dance. In the middle of the park... I was terribly embarrassed, but I obliged and the kids looked at us like we were crazy. I started to get a little emotional listening to the romantic song and realizing that I was dancing with my amazing husband who put so much work into our day. And right as the tears came, he then got down on one knee! I was so caught of guard and asked him what he was doing. He then pulled out a small box and opened it up. Inside were two rings made of wood. He explained the significance of the type of wood and how he was always ready commit to me and our marriage over and over again. So we took off our wedding rings and replaced them with these for the rest of the day. I still wear mine. (Uber cheesy, huh? haha) (He also did all of this while the kids cried and cried....)
Erwin caught me in the middle of being all emotional from the experience. Clara's face tho....ha!
That was the end of the gifts and end of all the crazy and wonderful surprises! I was so overwhelmed by all he did, and the time and preparation he took into making it such a fun and memorable day. Even with 2 kids in tow, he made the best of it and made me feel like a bazillion bucks. (I gave him all his gifts at the end of the day. Thankfully he liked them all. whew!)
Later that night, my parents watched the kids while we went to eat at a fancy place in SLC. It was so yummy, and everyone knows I love an amazing piece of steak.
By the end of the day, we were exhausted, but so happy to have spent the day together as a family. I am very blessed to have a dedicated husband, who works so hard at our marriage so that we succeed and so that I feel loved. Happy 5 years to us!!! Can't wait for 5 more and more.
