I took the kids to our new pediatrician in American Fork. Wa'a for his 3 yr check up, and Clara for her 1 yr! I was grateful they let me do the appt for both the kids together, so I didn't need 2 seperate visits.
It was hard for me to leave our old pediatrician. He was chatty, loud-but jolly and super animated and great with the kids. And the nurse! Oh my, how I loved her. She was cherry and kind and the fastest at giving shots, that my kids barely had time to cry.
I was anxious to go somewhere new, but I decided that we needed a Dr much closer to our new home.
All went well! (for the most part) Our new Dr is kind, softer spoken, and a great listener. He was patient and open to listening to me.
But the nurse....sigh. The nurse. Don't get me wrong. She was pretty and sweet and kind. But very all buisness-like. But what really irked me was that she is the slooooooooowest shot giver. I couldn't believe it. Both my kids got shots and I saw their legs start to quiver and shake and their whole body tensed up. Poor Clara, she had 5 shots that day and it was like watching someone torture her. I was so upset for them and left feeling hopeless about my kids ever liking to go to the Dr. (Wa'a usually loves going. Not anymore...)
Anyway, here is a brief update on their health!
Clara Joy. Oh this girl. There is a reason why her nickname is chunky monkey. :)
She is 95th percentile for weight and 99th percentile for head size. The Dr chuckled while examining her and even asked me if big heads run in the family. HA!
She is good to start milk--but not whole milk bc she doesn't need that many calories like most 1 yr olds. I laughed at that. She is average for her height and is developing at a great pace.
We love our chubs!
Then there is Wa'a. Oh Wa'a. My sweet boy who is opposite of his sister. He is average everywhere except his weight. He is below average on weight, and that has always worried me. He has never been a good eater, and it's even worse now that he has become a picky eater. But the Dr said he isn't too concerned yet, and to try to feed him a super high in fat and calorie diet. Lots of whole milk for him at least. :) He is developing right on track too!
The one thing that 3 Dr's had told me, is that they are worried that Wa'a has asthma. Since he gets unusually sick so often (bronchitis, pneumonia, coughs, etc) the Dr's seem to think that it's caused by weak lungs and unable to breathe well--hence the asthma thought. This makes me so nervous. I am not familiar with asthma and out of my huge family, I can only think of maybe 2 people who had it for a while. So, the next time he is sick, they want to do certain tests on him and treat him with different medications to determine more if that is the answer. Fingers crossed for a healthy winter!
I am very grateful for healthy kids. Yes, they seem to get colds all the time, but overall we have been blessed. I know there are many others who are not as fortunate, and I thank Heavenly Father for my adorable babies.
