Christmas festivities

Even though it doesn't feel like Christmas is almost here, (lack of snow really kills it for me), it has been so great to do all the Christmas traditions that I know and love. It is so important to me to keep familial traditions alive and pass them down to my kids. I also love the new traditions we are doing as our own little family every year, and the joy it is to create them together.

So we got out our advent calendars out and hung, put up all our decorations around the house, set up the tree and made traditional family cookie recipes. I just love it. I make schliferlies with my mom this weekend, and that is my most favorite of all!

Making the traditional Ligget cookies. The dough is a bit tricky to work with.

Final product! My parents approved. And it was great to eat them and be nostalgic.

We stopped by my parents house one night when Erwin worked really late. As I came home from an errand, I got a little teary eyed as I saw my son and my mom through the window decorating the tree. It felt tender and sweet.

Papa joined in!

We usually have an 8 foot tree. I love the big and bold trees. But this year we got a smaller one, and it is just right. The kids are understanding more and more about Christmas and did such a great job helping me decorate the tree with our favorite ornaments.

They would stop to give each other big, tight bear hugs throughout. *melt*

Ta da! The tree skirt is made by my mom back in 1998.

After the kids are asleep, I sit on the couch and enjoy the glowing lights every single night. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. I love this time of year!
