Burgess Orchards

I love road side fruit stands in the summer. But I love even more family owned orchards where you can go and pick the fruit yourself. It reminds me of when I was a kid and we got to go apple or cherry picking in orchards and the excitement of carrying my own box or basket and filling it to the brim of fresh fruit where you could smell the juice.
I had heard a bit about this family owned orchard not too far from us, and while they don't often allow you to pick your own peaches they certainly are well known for their variety and quality of them, and that was enough for me to want to go check them out.
I ventured out with the kids and got there soon after they opened since I heard they sell out within hours. It was such a quaint little off the road farm store, and I loved it from the moment we pulled up.

I bought two boxes of Red Haven peaches. I can't wait to go back over the next couple of weeks and try the differences between the varieties.

Fresh fruit stands are such a pretty sight.

They also sell fresh peach ice cream. It was 10 a.m., but we bought some anyway. Yum.

I loved that we were the only ones there. We washed out hands and sat down at a cute table and enjoyed our ice cream. It was fun to eat outside at this cute place.

This outing was so refreshing for us. We got out of the house, enjoyed fresh air and fresh fruit and ice cream, and went some place new. And even though it was quick, it was fun and made us each want to go back.

Peaches ripen quickly so I needed to figure out what to do with them quick. It was fun to bake and try a few different things. I made three different kinds of peach crisps and cobblers and today I am going to attempt to make homemade peach pie. Peaches are my favorite summer time fruit, and I must say all my desserts turned out delicious! Some more sweet than others and some more filled with spices, but each one divine warmed up and served with ice cream. We are enjoying gifting our bakes to neighbors and family too.

I had no idea there were so many peach varieties! Haha. And please add your peach cobblers to my must-eat-next-PG-visit list! ;)
