Our kitchen is badly water damaged and since it was caused initially by a slow valve leak, our insurance denied us outright. I was overwhelmed with worry when that happened and had no idea what we were going to do next.
Cue angels. Heavenly and earthly angels. Some dear cousins of mine, and one of my Aunts and Uncles, contacted us immediately to see how they could serve. And they showed up (still are) in a big way. We felt a deep sense of love and awareness from our Heavenly Father, and although there was some initial resistance to accept help, we felt we should and allowed family to enter our home. Their help has been valuable and made up of many days working long hours to allow us some financial relief to not have to hire someone else to do demolition work.
Floors were pulled up. Boxes moved. Walls torn down. Big furniture moved. Plumbing looked at. Cabinets removed. Shelving taken down.
It was amazing to see so many hands make hard work light, and even with obstacles no one made it seem like it bothered them. We were overwhelmed with gratitude every time someone showed up, and shed a few tears of gratitude when they left. Service really is the extension of Christ's love. The Law of Consecration is real and a huge blessing. Family is a vital and an eternal concept and the earthly and forever blessings that come from it is so obvious. I am so thankful to my family who showed up to love us and help us in a time of great need. And still to this day they are contacting us and coming up to the house to see what more they can do and planning to return when it's time to do more.
Extended family was such a lifeline for me as a child, and the deep relationships I formed with them uplifted me and blessed me throughout my life. Now as an adult, I am still being blessed by these members of my family and feel immense gratitude to call them mine.
