Shots and singing

I was able to schedule both the boys' well checks for the same appointment time. I always appreciate hitting two birds with one stone, and was even able to schedule it while Clara was at school. The appt went very well and I really love our pediatrician. What I didn't realize was that Tyler was behind on shots and would need four of them at our visit. I quickly asked the nurse if she had suckers stashed somewhere to help distract from the pain, since I did not bring any comfort reinforcements myself. Thankfully they did and he was poked all over his little legs. I must say, I really miss our old nurse in Salt Lake. She is the fastest nurse I have ever seen with shots, and people would ask to specifically have her be the giver of all vaccines because she was so good at being quick and efficient. All other nurses move so slow, and I totally understand why kids scream as a needle enters their body at a snails pace. It drives me nuts. But with a sucker, tears stopped and he calmed right down. Wa'a on the other hand did not. He absolutely hates needles, and bawls his eyes out when he sees his siblings receive shots. He cries when they cry and hates seeing them in pain. He could not calm down until we arrived home.
Good news though was that Wa'a's lungs sounded great, because usually they don't. We are very grateful since his health is a huge stress factor for us and a top priority. I giggled though because my boys are always under for their weight, but sky high for their height. Tyler is insanely tall for his age, and I wonder if he'll be tall and skinny like my uncles. He measured massive for his head though. :)

Taking extra time in the office to let Wa'a cry for his brother.

When we came home we saw that Clara's late birthday gifts from family had arrived. We couldn't wait a minute more and opened them right up for her. She was so tickled and surprised to see what was inside each box and Erwin went to work quickly to set everything up for her. What transpired next was such a gift to us. She was happy. She was smiling and laughing. She asked for music and we put on some of her favorite clips which she immediately burst out into song along with. She embraced the spotlight (which is often difficult for her) and rocked her little heart out. Both Erwin and I were giddy with joy at seeing our daughter thrive in her element with music.

That smile though.

Little brother woke up and ran to take over.

She let him play the Uke while she rocked out.
