Wa'a turns 8

Wa'a's birthday was on Sunday this year. I am the kind of mom where it is so important to make sure my kids wake up and immediately feel special and loved on their big day. Since we live with my parents, I didn't want to make a mess of their whole house with crazy decor, so I woke up at 5 a.m. to head outside to the porch and decorate. We start every morning out on the porch, so it seemed fit that it would be his special place to celebrate him.

This is the sunset at 5 a.m. I felt such gratitude for a beautiful day to start off with my son.

Nothing crazy. A small cake with candle, some balloons, a sign, his favorite candy and one present to start the day.

He woke up at 7 a.m. He was so pleased to see the set up. We enjoyed some time just the two of us. I always tell the story of the day my kids were born. We chatted, hugged and shared more memories of him as a baby.

I try to not let the kids open presents until Daddy is awake. Since daddy sleeps in, this is hard for the kids. So we woke him up and let Wa'a open his first gift which was a watch!

The other kids woke up and Clara right away gave him a picture that she had drawn for him days before. It was of the two of them, and my heart melted just a little. :)

We got everyone dressed and headed to the Timp temple by our house to take baptism pictures. It was a wicked hot day and it was difficult to get through the session without feeling like we were going to pass out. But the kids still maintained a good mood and we did it!

Moni and Grandpa showed up to see him! A few of the Aunties called during their visit, so they were funny and called via video to sing to Wa'a all while standing some feet away from us. We laughed and laughed.

My photography skills that were once up to date and polished have been outdated and dusty as of late. But I did my best to take a few pics that I thought would look nice and some come out perfectly. Some not, but they are to remember anyway. I was so pleased to have quite a few to use for his baptism.

After pictures we came back to my parents and had dinner, cake and presents! He got some wonderful gifts and his reactions to them were priceless.

You can see Tyler in this picture planning to soon take over his gifts.

He got a slime alien with a hidden treasure inside. As gross as it kind of is, it's also way cool.

We ended the night with a massive thuderstorm that shook the whole house. It was amazing and felt so good! Wa'a also got his last gift of the day from Erwin, which was his very own pocket knife. He has been so good about knife safety that we felt good about this. He was very excited and felt so grown up.

I'm so thankful for Wa'a. He is a tender soul. He is kind, polite, sweet, thoughtful and helpful. Sure, he teases too much, whines a bit, is a picky eater who hates dressing up, doing chores and running errands. ;)
But he is connected to the Lord in ways that amaze me. His prayers are intentional and deep. His love and consideration for others is profound. He loves family. He loves play, attention and hugs. He teaches me more than I could have imagines, and I am excited for the years to come with him,
